Description
Description
USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) is a modern American ship designed to operate in coastal or littoral waters. The keel of this vessel was laid in June 2009, the vessel was launched in December 2010, and she entered service with the US Navy in September 2012. The ship is 115.3 meters long and 17.7 meters wide. Full displacement reaches 3,500 tons, and the maximum speed definitely exceeds 40 knots and probably fluctuates around 45-50 knots.
USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) is the second ship in the Freedom class. The ships of this type were created as units with the highest possible maximum speed and high maneuverability, which were to operate in coastal waters. The main tasks of this type of units include ZOP (anti-submarine combat) actions against classic-propelled submarines, anti-mine actions, but also broadly understood asymmetric actions in the form of - for example - fighting pirates. Units of this type, as one of the first, use various types of floating and flying drones on a large scale. A large part of their on-board equipment can also be easily replaced depending on the nature of the mission in which the ship is to take part. The USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) is the first ship of this name in the history of the US Navy. Probably in relation to USS Freedom (LCS-1) it has lower fuel consumption, which allows to increase its range of operation. In 2013, the USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) underwent extensive testing related to its artillery armament, as well as the use of the MQ-8 Fire Scout flying drone. In 2015, the unit was directed to the Pacific, in the region of Płw. Korean in order to test the possibility of counteracting the mine threat.
