Welcome to Frankton Model Shop

The Frankton Model Shop first started business shortly after World War II by a gentleman with the name of Alf Leong. Alf was an expert model plane builder & flyer and grew the store from the back of his parents Greengrocers to the building it is currently in. Geoff & David Leong took over the family business in the mid 80's with Geoff running the store up until the early 2000's. In December 2022 the business was purchased by the Toia family.

The Frankton Model Shop’s success is largely credited to Nathan Toia, who has been a valued member of the team since 1991. Nathan brings extensive experience across all areas of modelling, supported by multiple New Zealand National Championship titles. Throughout his career, he has also proudly represented New Zealand at World Championship level on numerous occasions.

Dion, Cameron and Logan complete the team.

Dion is passionate about vintage RC scale trucks and 3D printing. You’ll often spot him at the track, where he enjoys being involved and sharing his enthusiasm for the hobby.

Cameron is our plastics expert, with a strong knowledge base and keen interest in military and aircraft modelling. His expertise and attention to detail make him a great asset to the team.

Logan specialises in R/C cars. With multiple New Zealand National titles and international experience under his belt, he can provide expert advice or build pro-level race machines capable of competing at any level.

It's with great sadness that we lost long time employee Lee Tracey early 2024 R.I.P.

He was a valuable member of our team.
